DANCESTION is all about teaching and learning BALLROOM DANCING

So what is all this buzz about ballroom dancing? There is certainly a resurgence of interest in ballroom dancing both as a sport/competition dancing as well as a social activity. Here at Dancesation we are only concentrating on ballroom dancing as a social activity, more precisely on teaching beginning ballroom dancing. We are making the learning easy and fun. Our objective is to give our learners the confidence to go on the dance floor and have a good time. There is simply no other physical, mental and social activity that would give us the benefits and pleasure that ballroom dancing can give.

Classes Offered

The least expensive way of learning how to dance is through group lessons. Depending on the venue (location) and number of learners in the group, the cost to attend is from $5.00 to $10.00 per person. All group lessons are "pay-as-you-go" i.e. no need to buy packages of lessons. Group lessons are conducted by George and Miriam.

We offer private lessons at the very reasonable cost of $40.00 for a full hour of instruction (reasonable when compared to the $75.00 and up for a 45 minutes lesson charged by professional teachers). Private lessons can be given by George alone when teaching one or two ladies, and given by both George and Miriam when teaching a couple or two gentlemen.

We also offer instruction for special occasions as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras, Sweet Sixteens, Weddings, etc. These could range from a private lesson for two or four people to a group lesson for up to 20 yougsters to teach them a routine (we did this once for a Quinceanera celebration).

What Do We Teach

We teach all the traditional ballroom dances:

  • Waltz
  • Foxtrot
  • Cha-Cha
  • Rumba
  • Swing (East Coast and West Coast)
  • Tango

We also teach

  • Hustle
  • Merengue
  • Night Club Two Step
  • Salsa

How do we teach

We teach differently than the great majority of dance teachers. Perhaps this is due to George's background (he has a doctoral degree in teaching). When we teach, we do not line up ladies on one side and gentlemen on opposite side. Instead, participants form a circle. George and Miriam demonstrate the step (pattern) a few times, from different angles. Then they break down the pattern in 2-4 parts depending on the level of difficulty. If needed, they also demonstrate the pattern in slow motion. Then the music is turned on and participants are asked to start executing the pattern. George and Miriam circulate among participants and individually help a person or couple if they have difficulty executing the pattern.

This method of teaching turned out to be very successful in the past 15 years no matter the venue: at senior centers, at ballroom clubs or on cruise ships. Participants will learn. We guarantee it!

Your Teachers

George

With extensive experience in teaching young students a foreign language, teaching physicians how to teach and earning a doctoral degree in education (Ed.D.) George is an accomplished teacher. Add to this a passion for ballroom dancing, thirty years of dancing and fifteen years of teaching ballroom dancing it is no wonder that he has built a reputation for being a devoted, patient and gifted teacher. He spends a good deal of time in helping gentlemen to learn the patterns and, more importantly, to teach them how to lead.

Miriam

After 43 years of marriage and 30 years of dancing together, Miriam is much more than a dance or teaching partner to George. They know how to tease each other on the floor adding some humor and putting the learners at ease. Miriam makes at easy for ladies to learn the patterns by patiently demonstrating each move in front of the group as well as working individually with a lady if needed.

Testimonials

“It was so nice to meet the two of you; you both were a highlight to our trip. We hope to see you sometimes soon.”

- Amy T.

“We did another Princess cruise this time to Alaska. They had a ballroom dance instructor (part of the crew), but he did not come close to being great like the two of you. As a matter of fact, in the after the cruise survey for our Copenhagen cruise we raved about what wonderful instructors the both of you were and how Princess needs to get you back as much as they can.”

- Steen and Rebecca B.

“We sailed on both the Regal and Royal. Both redone very nicely. The Regal did have a nightly band playing in the atrium for dancing. It was awesome. The classes did not attract the huge crowds that you both did on Emerald.”

- Steen and Rebecca B.

“Diane and I think back on our transatlantic cruise last year and how much we enjoyed it. Of course, dancing and your classes were a big part of why that cruise was so special. We told everyone how wonderful your classes were and what nice people you are. If you are the dance instructors on any future cruises, please let us know.”

- Steve and Diane H.

“Your teaching style is so entertaining and your tying the different ballroom dances together like you did added so much for the intermediate dancers like us. Please let us know if you are ever assigned to teach on another cruise.”

- Bob and Jaan B.

“Super instruction; great motivators; excellent in helping us; perfection in all you do.”

- Michel and Blanca L.
