So what is all this buzz about ballroom dancing? There is certainly a resurgence of interest in ballroom dancing both as a sport/competition dancing as well as a social activity. Here at Dancesation we are only concentrating on ballroom dancing as a social activity, more precisely on teaching beginning ballroom dancing. We are making the learning easy and fun. Our objective is to give our learners the confidence to go on the dance floor and have a good time. There is simply no other physical, mental and social activity that would give us the benefits and pleasure that ballroom dancing can give.
The least expensive way of learning how to dance is through group lessons. Depending on the venue (location) and number of learners in the group, the cost to attend is from $5.00 to $10.00 per person. All group lessons are "pay-as-you-go" i.e. no need to buy packages of lessons. Group lessons are conducted by George and Miriam.
We offer private lessons at the very reasonable cost of $40.00 for a full hour of instruction (reasonable when compared to the $75.00 and up for a 45 minutes lesson charged by professional teachers). Private lessons can be given by George alone when teaching one or two ladies, and given by both George and Miriam when teaching a couple or two gentlemen.
We also offer instruction for special occasions as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras, Sweet Sixteens, Weddings, etc. These could range from a private lesson for two or four people to a group lesson for up to 20 yougsters to teach them a routine (we did this once for a Quinceanera celebration).
We teach all the traditional ballroom dances:
We also teach
We teach differently than the great majority of dance teachers. Perhaps this is due to George's background (he has a doctoral degree in teaching). When we teach, we do not line up ladies on one side and gentlemen on opposite side. Instead, participants form a circle. George and Miriam demonstrate the step (pattern) a few times, from different angles. Then they break down the pattern in 2-4 parts depending on the level of difficulty. If needed, they also demonstrate the pattern in slow motion. Then the music is turned on and participants are asked to start executing the pattern. George and Miriam circulate among participants and individually help a person or couple if they have difficulty executing the pattern.
This method of teaching turned out to be very successful in the past 15 years no matter the venue: at senior centers, at ballroom clubs or on cruise ships. Participants will learn. We guarantee it!
